“This morning” was created in 2021 (August) and shows a mother and daughter picking cactus fruit. The piece takes place on the Gila River Reservation and shows an imagined image of a recent past. I wanted to create another art piece that featured a mother and daughter as the focus and this is what I came up with. It is based on a past bullet journal cover art I did in 2020. It also took about two months to create this piece because I accidentally deleted my first file of it. But, I honestly like this second, and final, one better!

About: Cactus fruit start showing in the summertime, and is also called prickly pear. With this, o’odham people celebrate our New Year’s. I chose to feature a mother and daughter, as this is a relationship where many lessons, cultural and/or daily ones, are passed down.
