Indigenous Gift Guide
With the holiday season right around the corner, one of the things that I wanted to do for the season was help promote indigenous artists and businesses during the time. As an Indigenous Artist who sells online, I know how important exposure can be, especially from September to Early December. There is a lot on one's plate during this time that promoting yourself makes it to the bottom of the to-do list, especially for those of us who are one-person businesses/artists. Hence, I created this particular gift guide to help share some fellow indigenous artists and businesses who all have different backgrounds, tribes, and styles. I loved searching through each artist's/business's website and social media, and hopefully, you will find something you love, too!
Officially, holiday orders start in Late July and peak around October/November. While for indigenous items, there is a spike that happens in November due to November being Native American Heritage Month. So, I did my best to ensure the gift guide went live on September 1st, 2023.
Since June, this gift guide has been in the works. To help visitors feel more connected, I've included pictures that showcase products from those featured, along with short bios so that you can learn more about the artist/business, such as where they are from, their tribe, and a little of their backstory.
Along with pictures and a bio, a link to the product showcased, and a link to the artist/business website have also been included to allow visitors to find things more easily. Each link will take visitors away from the gift guide. Along with this information, I also want to note that many items on the gift guide are one of a kind, so they may have already been sold. However, I still want to showcase an artist's/business's talent, so the pictures will remain up. However, if I find a similar item, the person's section may be updated or may include a link to another similar product by the featured person.
The gift guide is done through Trello, a visual tool that uses a list system to organize items. Since it is done using Trello, I can update and add information. This format would be best because I wanted this gift guide to be a constant place to come to. At the same time, due to the structure, I can also add new featured artists/businesses, which I plan to do at least two times a year.
The Full Indigenous Gift Guide will be linked, but let me show you some items featured in the gift guide to give you an idea of what is showcased in the full gift guide.
Thank you for reading, and thank you to those who gave me wonderful bios and photos to include. Having you participate in this gift guide means the world to me!
If you're an indigenous artist/business who sells online and would also like to be included in this gift guide, please reach out to me on any of my social media, along with any questions you have!
